Day 7... New Sport

Today I'll be making a new *Paralympic sport. My Paralympic sport is called Wheelchair Racing. Wheelchair racing may sound simple but, can be hard. So this sport is for people in wheelchairs and people with no feet or legs. The competitors have to use their little joystick to move forward  and have to use their steering wheel to steer them from straight to a turning wheelchair.
Here are 3 simple but are really important rules. Rule 1: You can not drive into other competitors. Rule 2: You must be looking the hole time. Rule 3. Always try to help others when they crash or get injured.

In the comments below tell what Paralympic events you'll create.
*The Paralympic events for disabled people.

Day 7... Raising Money

It is very expensive for each of the Paralympic athletes to fly from New Zealand to Rio de Janeiro to compete.  Most athletes have to fundraise in order to make the money that they need to go on the big trip. Recently, Harvey Norman announced that they will be helping to raise funds for the New Zealand Paralympic team.

If I got to do a fundriase with my family we would do a bake sale.. One because I love baking. Two My Nana and Mum are good bakers. Three Who doesn't like treats. Four Great opportunity to be creative with my baking. Five I have heaps of family members and Friends to help! Another way to do a fundraiser is to sell all your old items like clothes, toys and comic books if you have any. This is a great fundraiser because One You sell things you don't need. Two People don't have what you have. Three You can also help people in Africa. Four You can donate some of your old clothes to the odd shop. Five You don't really want too keep to many old items.
#Delicious
If you did a fundraise what would you do? Comment what you would do below.

Day 7... Teamwork

What Is Teamwork?

Teamwork is when two people or more people work together and treat each other how they want to be treated. Teamwork is very important especially in partner activities or team activities. At the first ever Paralympic Games in Rome, the athletes competed in eight sports. Cycling was one of them. For the cycling event, two people compete together as a team – one of the people has a disability and the other does not.

Teamwork In The Olympics

Approximately one month after the Olympic Games finish, there is a second Olympic competition. This competition is specifically for athletes who have physical disabilities. It is called the Paralympics. The first official Paralympic Games were held in Rome, Italy in 1960.At the first ever Paralympic Games in Rome, the athletes competed in eight sports. Cycling was one of them. For the cycling event, two people compete together as a team – one of the people has a disability and the other does not. Here is a picture of a para-cycling team from New Zealand:

Trusting Others

In the Cycling event the disabled person has to be able to trust the other person, to be in the front seat guiding the disabled person. Trusting other means you have faith in them and you believe them too. I suggest trusting people you already know such as friends, family and relatives (A person connected by blood ). Make sure the person you're trusting is someone who always tells the truth, never lies and someone who trusts you.

Who Would I Cycle With?

I would cycle with my best friend Riiana because I can trust her, she LOVES riding bikes like me and she trusts me. I know that I can trust Riiana because we've known each other for quite a while and we never lied to each other. If we were cycling together I would be on the back seat peddling while Riiana's in the front peddling and steering.

I the comments below and tell me who you would cycle with and why.

Day 6... Looking At Some New Zealand Uniforms For The Oylmpics

Today I'll be looking at the different uniforms New Zealand created For all Olympic opening and closing ceremonies, the athletes from each country must wear a special uniform. I'll be rating three of the uniforms from 2012, 2008 and 2004.

New Zealand Team Uniform – London Olympics 2012

This uniform is number one out of the 3. I like the jumpers with the silver fern and the Olympic Logo. I also like the dress's the women are wearing.
C:\Users\rwil313\Desktop\2012 NZ Uniform.jpg

New Zealand Olympic Team Uniform – Athens Olympics 2004
This uniform is number 2 out of 3. I like the big silver fern on the left side and a little Olympic logo on the right side.

Day 6... Sitting In The Crowd

My Short Story

I was sitting in the crowd at the opening ceremony for the Rio Olympics in August. The ceremony has just started and all of the Olympic athletes are parading around the stadium in their uniforms when all of a sudden a massive explosion interrupted the ceremony. A bomb went off, only 789 people didn't get injured out of 800. ( I was one of then who didn't get injured. ) "Someone put a bomb in one of the shot put balls" An athlete shouted." Oh no! 11 people and the Stadium is broken, how are we going to carry on!?" Someone shouted. Everyone left when the ambulance arrived, only 7 people out of 11 survived the other 3 died. About 4 of us ( Including me ) called some builders to fix this mess. After a few days the stadium was fix and the Olympic Games were on after the athletes ceremony.

Day 6... Inviting ONE Person To A Ceremony

If I was a host for the 2024 Olympics and I got invited to be the committee I would have to invite someone to the ceremony.  Out of  Richie McCaw (rugby player), Lorde (singer), Kane Williamson (cricket player), Maria Tutaia (netball player), John Key (prime minister of New Zealand) or Shaun Johnson (league player) I would choose Richie MaCaw because he's one of New Zealand's best rugby player and it would be very exciting to meet him.

I think Richie McCaw would be the best because he's an awesome rugby player and he's a New Zealand favourite. Richie McCaw was the All Blacks captain until he retired. I would be very oared to meet Richie McCaw because he's one of many famous people and is most loved rugby player.

I the comments below tell who you would choose and one reason why.

Day 5... Who Do I Admire?

Who Do I Admire?

I admire my Dad and Mum because my Dad is really strong and funny, while my Mum is amazing because she helps me and is super kind. One day I want to be just like my Dad but, a kind girl like my Mum. When I grow up I want to compete in a weight lifting competition with my Dad and Mum in the crowd watching.

I also admire my friends because there're funny and they always got my back whenever I'm feeling down or whenever I need help. They're also very funny and creative.

Day 5... Meeting A 13 Year Old Girl Named Marjorie Gestring

Marjorie Gestring
In 1936, a 13 year old girl named Marjorie Gestring became the youngest person to ever win an Olympic gold medal. She won the gold medal in the springboard diving competition. If I got to meet her and interview her I would ask five really important question.

Number 1: What inspired you to be an Olympian?
Number 2: Are you proud of all of your achievements?
Number 3: Do you enjoy Springboard Diving?
Number 4: Do you think you can become a champion?
Number 5: Do you have any fears?

In the comments below tell me 5 question you would ask Marjorie Gestring.

Day 4... If I Could Meet An Athlete

If I Could Meet An Athlete
If I could meet an athlete out of Lauren Boyle, Andrea Kilday and Stuart Farquhar I would chose Lauren Boyle. I want to meet Lauren Boyle because she's a New Zealand swimmer and I enjoy swimming.

Lauren Boyle was born in 1987. Lauren Boyle is 183 cm in height. Lauren Boyle is set to become just the fourth Kiwi swimmer to attend three Olympic Games. Her best Olympic result so far was a brilliant fourth placing in the 800m freestyle final in London 2012. Lauren is New Zealand's most successful swimmer, winning five of the country's 10 medals ever won at the FINA World Championships. In 2014 Lauren became the first New Zealander to win three medals at a single Pan Pacific Championship. She broke the 1500m freestyle short course world record last year and was a FINA World 25m Champion in 2012. Lauren is a member of the United Swimming Club in Auckland.

Why Aren't I In The Olympics!?

Life As A Cyclist

Wow! Look at that, Chad Adair already finished his three kilometers and isn't breaking a sweat?!

Hi everyone, today is about being a Cyclist. Being a cyclist must be hard because they probably have to train a lot, they get sore legs and they might be very tried before their big day comes. I LOVE riding bikes especially down hills because, the wind is in my face and I get to go zooming down. If I was a Cyclist I would be excited, happy, scared and tried.

What Would Cyclist Eat?

Cyclist would probably eat food such as, Vegetables, Fruit, Steak, Fish, Chicken and other proteins. Firstly, we should fruit and vegetables because it's healthy. Secondly, meat and grains have good proteins and taste so good with vegetables. Thirdly, it's not always a good idea to eat treat meals all the time. Treat meal is another way of saying junk food.

What Does A Cyclist Wear?

If I was a Cyclist I would have to wear Lycra shorts, special shoes, tight-fitting jerseys, even gloves with holes in the back... Oh and a helmet for safety. Some Cyclist have to wear a full on body suit. The body suit, tight- fitting jerseys and the Lycra shorts are made of special materials so, the Cyclist don't feel to much wind when Cycling.

Here is a picture of me almost ready for my bike ride.
In this picture I'm on my bike getting warmed up before my competition.

Day 3... Why Worry?

Why Worry

All I need is a little faith, my eighth wish.
Swish goes my club, I'm frightened need a clapping crowd.
Proud to be me, three more hits.
 It's terrifying, verifying the rules.
Why worry I'm the best in my opinion!

Day 3... Learning About Trampoline Gymnastics

Trampoline Gymnastics

I was learning about the 2016 Olympics in Rio and found some new events.
Fun Fact: There will be 28 different sports played at the Olympic Games this year in Rio. I was really interested in the Trampoline Gymnastics event. The aim is to jump high and do a Rudy Out  ( A double somersault with one and a half twist). Here are two rules you need to remember  1. Each competitor performs two sets of 10 routines – single, double or triple somersaults, with and without twists. 2.After the judge gives the signal, the gymnast must start their performance within one minute, during which they are allowed to jump on the trampoline until they reach the required height and stability.  If I had to perform in front a lot of people on a trampoline and  had to do flips and special tricks I would be extremely nervous! In the comments below tell me how you will feel if you  had to perform in front a lot of people on a trampoline and had to do flips and had to do special tricks.

Time To Get Creative

Hi everyone,
C:\Users\rwil313\Desktop\Tokyo logos.jpgThis is the day were I get creative. I deiced to create my very own Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Logo for the next Summer Olympic Games. It took me a little bit of time to think of a design and what colours I was going to use. I eventually came up with an idea. I really hope you like it.

I was thinking of a man who just ran at least 200 meters and won 1st place. I tried to make him in a fire shape in a fire shape. In the middle section I coloured it so it looked like sand, grass and water.

Day 2: How Did Tom And Vinicius Become Friends?

The Story Of Tom And Vinicius Friendship

It was a beautiful, sunny day in Rio. Vinicius was walking in a forest until he saw a magic, flying  orb in the air then started chasing it. Tom on the other hand  was on the other side of the forest chasing another magic, flying orb. Tom and Vinicius were running like crazy until they bumped into each other in a pound. The magic orbs wanted to create a strong bond that couldn't be broken. They were bound to be the best pals and mascots in Rio.

Day 2... Tom And Vinicius – 2016 Olympics in Rio

Tom and Vinicius – 2016 Olympics in Rio
Tom and Vinicius are mascots for Rio (Brazil). Tom is a blue dude with a plant on his head and has orange hands, Vinicius is a orange monkey with a long, leafy tail... He has dark blue hands, dark orange feet and cute, little round ears... Oh and he has rosy cheeks. They can be found on all of the advertisements for the Olympic Games and they have also been featured in a number of videos.
C:\Users\rwil313\Desktop\Statue of Christ the Redeemer.jpeg
If you're wondering when the Olympics start for 2016 well it starts on the 5th of August to  the 21st of August. The Olympics are set in Rio (Brazil). Rio de Janeiro, the host of Olympic Games this year, is a huge, vibrant and dynamic city. The most famous landmark in the city is a large statue of Jesus called ‘Christ the Redeemer’ that sits on top of a hill overlooking Rio.

In 1894, a man named Pierre de Coubertin decided that it was time to reintroduce the Olympic Games to the world. He started a committee called the International Olympic Committee or for short the IOC. The International Olympics Committee started in April the 6th of 1894. The International Olympics Committee were held in Pairs (France). There were events such as  cycling, fencing, gymnastics, sailing, shooting, swimming, tennis, weightlifting, wrestling and many others.

Day One... Winter Learning Journey Part Two

C:\Users\rwil313\Desktop\Ancient Map of Greece.jpg
Olympia was an ancient city in the country of Greece. The ancient city of Olympia was the site of the first ever Olympic Games. There were event such as, running, boxing, wrestling, discus throwing, pankration, horse and chariot races, and the pentathlon. The came to an end in 393 which would have been thousands of year ago.

C:\Users\rwil313\Desktop\Wrestling image.jpg
C:\Users\rwil313\Desktop\Boxing gloves (ancient games).jpgWrestling is a sport or activity of grappling with an opponent and trying to throw or hold them down on the ground, typically according to a code of rules, similar to traditional wrestling but it ended when one of the athletes admitted defeat and quit. Wrestling to me is fun because I like to body slam my dad my mum.

C:\Users\rwil313\Desktop\Javelin (statue).jpgBoxing in the 393 Olympics is similar to the boxing matches that we see today however, instead of boxing gloves, the athletes had long strips of leather wrapped around their hands. If I was in a boxing match wearing leather strips around my hands then I would need to put my hands in a bowl ice to help my sore hands. I do boxing every Saturday with my mum at the Strength Tech gym.

C:\Users\rwil313\Desktop\No Girls Allowed Sign.jpgPentathlon is an event where athletes had to compete in five separate activities such as running, long jump, discus, javelin and wrestling. Javelin is a sport where an athlete throws a long sword-like spear as far as they can. Discus is similar to javelin but, instead of throwing a spear, the athlete throws a flat disc. I'm pretty sure discus was almost like playing fetch with a frisbee.

During the ancient Olympic Games, men were allowed to compete in the events but women were not. In fact, women were often forbidden from even watching the games. To me this sounds terrible to be honest, it's unfair and if men got to go why didn't women get to go! In the comments below tell me your honest opinion about "No Girls Allowed" rule and what you think.

Day One... Winter Learning Journey Part One

Once Upon a Time in Olympia…
C:\Users\rwil313\Desktop\Ancient Map of Greece.jpg
Olympia was an ancient city in the country of Greece. The ancient city of Olympia was the site of the first ever Olympic Games. There were event such as, running, boxing, wrestling, discus throwing, pankration, horse and chariot races, and the pentathlon. The came to an end in 393 which would have been thousands of year ago.
C:\Users\rwil313\Desktop\Chariot racing image (close up).jpg

If I got to compete in the Olympic Games I would be very interested in the horse racing, also known as, "The Equestrian Races". Being in a horse race would be exciting but, scary at the same time. Equestrian races ( Horse Racing) is an event that involves horses, carriages also called chariot.

C:\Users\rwil313\Desktop\Pankration (Ancient games).jpg

If you don't know what pankration is well it's a form of martial arts that is combined with wrestling and boxing. Pankration in my opinion sounds pretty intense and probably an event for men.

C:\Users\rwil313\Desktop\Image - Stadium (Ancient Olympics).jpg Fun Fact : Kicking and hitting were allowed but biting and gouging an eye or soft spot with a thumb or finger were forbidden.

The athletes ran from one side of the stadium to the other. The athletes ran two lengths of the stadium. The athletes ran approximately 20 lengths of the stadium which, is pretty long. If I had to run 20 lengths of the 393 Olympics I would be SUPER tired and I mean SUPER tired.

There're are lots more information about the Olympics in 393 so wait for my next post coming soon. Look out for "Day One... Winter Learning Journey Part Two".
